General terms
- Membership fees and contributions run from 1 January to 31 December.
- There is no reduced rate for members who pay their WWSV contribution elsewhere.
- A maximum number of kitesurf members is allowed. This number has now been reached. Windsurfing, wing foiling and SUP are still open to new members.
- Members practise the sport they are registered for: a windsurfer may not kitesurf.
Kitesurfing is tolerated
Kitesurfing on inland water is prohibited in Belgium and the Netherlands. Masurfspot has an agreement with the municipality of Kinrooi: kitesurfing is tolerated (not officially permitted) as long as the agreements are respected. Masurfspot is responsible for making sure they are.
- Kitesurfing is for members only.
- A maximum of 60 kitesurfers is admitted — the lake can’t handle more.
- All members are insured when they take out their membership.
- Dredging activities always have priority over water sports users.
- Respect the other water sports users: anglers, boats, swimmers, windsurfers, SUPers.
- Kites may only be launched and landed on the kite beach. Kiting, launching and landing in the nature reserve are strictly prohibited.
Not allowed
Motorised water sports, including e-foils (battery-powered ones too), motorboats, inflatable boats and small fishing boats.
Why these agreements?
Safety. Kessenich is a difficult spot with many obstacles, dredging activities, gusty wind and a small beach — definitely not suitable for beginners. New kiters are only admitted if they are experienced. A kiter needs a lot of space (lines of 20+ metres), hence the maximum of 60. Too many kiters also limit the freedom of boats, windsurfers and the growing group of windfoilers (now around 30 active members).
Nature. The nature and bird sanctuary is left undisturbed. Members know where surfing is and isn’t allowed.
Getting along. Members know each other, respect other water sports users, stop for a chat, clear up their rubbish and look out for each other.
Masurfspot and its members are jointly responsible for these rules. If they are not respected, the spot will close for good.
